in conclusion
last updated: August 2026
I've consumed a lot of films, tv and literature in my time. Sometimes I like to summarise the story in a single sentence.
Are the descriptions oversimplified? Maybe.
Are my takes always fair? You can decide.
But for better or worse, these are the conclusions that I've drawn.
films & tv
-
Death in Paradise
Just a theory: the only reason tourists are still showing up to Saint Marie is that the island's mortality rate makes holiday home and hotel prices criminally cheap
-
The Graduate
Follow a young Dustin Hoffman as he makes a series of questionable life decisions to the soundtrack of Simon and Garfunkel
-
Hairspray
The story of how a plus-sized white girl solved racism through the power of dance
-
Scandal
B613 here, an affair over there, the main scandal the show uncovered was my lack of appreciation for Stevie Wonder's discography; it was swiftly handled
-
Shrek
The layered tale of the lengths a man will go to just to be left alone in peace (I relate heavily)
literature
-
Charlotte's Web
I can't remember how they taught this book in school, but reading it at 21 makes it clear to me that Templeton is the real unsung hero #JusticeForTempleton
-
Crime and Punishment
An alternate title could be feverish and delirious: nearly every character entered one, if not both, of these states at some point in the story
-
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
While Edmund is truly the worst, there were probably a few days in my childhood when I too would have traded in my sibling for a Turkish delight
-
A Man Called Ove
I have never had so much emotion conveyed to me through the use of a cat and a person's choice of car. A five-star read
-
Romeo and Juliet
How the infatuation of two teenagers leads to the deaths of 6 people over the course of a long weekend
-
Stay With Me
So you lie about your impotence, allow your family to bring you a second bride, get your brother to seduce and impregnate your first wife, and hide from her for 15 years the fact that her daughter did not actually die of a sickle cell crisis? Men deserve less, man
-
Twelfth Night
One of the few pieces of literature to have a love triangle that's actually triangular in shape, not simply an arrow
